1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Crumb Studios LLC (“Crumb Studios,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with our iOS app Lapse Pal (the “App”), which reminds you about money deadlines such as return windows, free trials, renewals, warranties and gift cards. Our website, crumbstudiosllc.com, is covered by our main privacy policy.
2. Summary
- Your deadlines stay on your iPhone. The App has no account and no server. The things you track, the receipt images you keep and your settings are stored only on your device. We never receive them.
- Receipts and screenshots are read on your device using Apple’s built-in text recognition. Images are not uploaded anywhere. See section 4.
- Reminders are scheduled on your device. We do not run a notification server. See section 5.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. The App contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. See section 9.
- Lapse Pal Pro is an optional subscription or one-time purchase handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. See section 6.
- We do not sell or share your personal information.
3. Information the App handles directly
To work, Lapse Pal stores the following on your device:
- Deadlines you add, such as an item or service name, store or company, amount, start and due dates, the type of deadline, how often it repeats, any notes you write, and whether you marked it as done, kept or lapsed.
- Receipt images, when you scan a receipt or import a photo of one, so you can view the receipt later.
- Settings and preferences, such as the time reminders arrive, which kinds of deadlines you told us you care about during setup, and whether you have finished setup.
- Purchase status, meaning whether Lapse Pal Pro is active.
This information is kept in the App’s storage on your device, including a storage area shared only with the App’s own widgets so they can show your next deadlines. If you use Apple features that back up your device, such as iCloud Backup, that data may be included in those backups under Apple’s terms.
The App does not ask you to create an account, and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location or payment information. Totals such as “money saved” are calculated on your device from the deadlines you mark as done.
4. Camera, photos and text recognition
- Camera. If you choose Scan receipts, the App asks for camera access and uses Apple’s document scanner to capture the receipt. The App uses the camera only while you are scanning.
- Photos. If you choose From photos or screenshots, you pick images using Apple’s photo picker. The App can see only the photos you select, not the rest of your library.
- Text recognition. The App reads the text in those images with Apple’s on-device Vision framework to find store names, totals, dates, subscriptions and renewal dates. This happens entirely on your iPhone. Images and the text found in them are not sent to us or to anyone else.
If an image is a receipt, the App keeps a copy of the receipt (or the part of the photo showing it) with that deadline. Screenshots of subscription lists are used only to read the details and are not kept. You can delete a deadline, and its receipt image, at any time.
5. Reminders, widgets and calendar
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, the App schedules reminders on your device using Apple’s local notifications. Reminder text, such as a deadline’s name and amount, is created on your device and is not sent through our servers or anyone else’s. Some last-day reminders are marked Time Sensitive so they can appear during Focus.
- Widgets. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read your upcoming deadlines from the App’s storage on your device. Lock Screen widgets can be visible while your iPhone is locked, so choose them with that in mind.
- Calendar. If you choose Add to Calendar, the App opens Apple’s own event editor, pre-filled with that deadline. You decide whether to save the event. The App does not read your calendar.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
The App offers Lapse Pal Pro as an optional monthly or yearly subscription, which may include a free trial, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. Apple handles your payment information; we never receive it.
When you buy or restore Pro, Apple tells the App which product you own so it can unlock Pro features. If you start a free trial, the App adds a reminder for the end of the trial to your list, on your device. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions or from the App’s settings. Through App Store Connect, Apple also gives us sales and subscription reports in aggregated or de-identified form.
7. Information Apple provides to developers
As the App’s developer, Crumb Studios may receive information from Apple through App Store Connect, including:
- Crash reports and diagnostics from users who have chosen to share analytics with app developers in their device settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements).
- App Store reports, such as download, sales and usage statistics. Apple provides these to developers in aggregated or de-identified form.
We use this information to fix problems, improve the App and understand how the App is performing. It does not include the deadlines or receipts stored in the App.
8. Information you give us when you contact us
If you email us for support or any other reason, we receive your email address, the contents of your message and anything you choose to include, such as screenshots or device details. We use this information only to respond to you and to fix any problems you report. Please don’t send us receipts or other documents unless they’re needed to solve your problem.
9. No advertising, analytics or tracking
Lapse Pal does not show ads and does not include any advertising or third-party analytics SDK. The App does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, does not use your device’s advertising identifier, and does not ask for permission to track. If we ever change this, we will update this policy and the App’s privacy details on the App Store first.
10. How we use information
The App uses the information on your device to:
- show and organize your deadlines, and calculate totals such as money at stake and money saved;
- read receipts and screenshots you choose, so you don’t have to type the details;
- schedule your reminders and keep your widgets up to date; and
- unlock Lapse Pal Pro if you have bought it.
Crumb Studios uses the limited information we receive, described in sections 7 and 8, to respond to support requests, find and fix bugs and crashes, maintain the security of the App and comply with legal obligations.
11. How information is shared
Because your deadlines and receipts never leave your device, we have nothing of yours to share. If you tap Share on a “money saved” card, the App creates an image on your device and opens Apple’s share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.
We may share the limited information we hold, such as support emails, only:
- with service providers who help us run our business, such as our email provider, only as needed to provide their services to us;
- when required by law, or when needed to protect the rights, property or safety of Crumb Studios, our users or others; and
- as part of a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, under this policy.
12. How long information is kept, and deleting it
Your deadlines, receipt images and settings stay on your device until you delete them. You can delete a single deadline from its screen, erase everything in the App under Settings → Erase all deadlines, or delete the App, which removes its data from your device. Copies may remain in your device backups until those backups are deleted. Your Pro purchase stays with your Apple Account and can be restored in the App under Settings → Restore purchases. We keep support emails only as long as needed to resolve your request and for reasonable record-keeping, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
13. Children’s privacy
Lapse Pal is a personal finance tool and is not directed at children. Crumb Studios does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the minimum age set by local law. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, please contact us and we will delete it.
14. Your choices and rights
- Permissions: You can turn camera, photo and notification access on or off at any time in Settings → Lapse Pal. The App still works without them; you can always add deadlines by hand.
- Data on your device: You control it completely. Edit or delete any deadline, erase everything, or delete the App.
- Crash data sharing: You can turn off sharing with app developers in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
- Information you sent us: You can ask us to access, correct or delete the information you have sent us by contacting us at the address below.
Depending on where you live, for example in California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under local law. These can include the right to know about, access, correct, delete or move your personal information, and to object to or restrict how it is processed. To use any of these rights, contact us. We will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights. We may need to confirm your request before acting on it.
15. Security
Your data is protected by your iPhone’s own security, including your passcode and the device encryption Apple provides. We take reasonable steps to protect the information we handle. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
16. International users
Crumb Studios LLC is based in the United States. If you contact us from outside the United States, the information you send may be processed in the United States or in other countries where our service providers operate.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, such as through an App update or a notice on this website.
